How do you properly store wine?!
Answers: Does anyone know the proper way to store red and white wines? (temperature, in the light/dark etc) Thanks !
Store the bottles in a dark and cool place. Not the refrigerator though. Wherever you choose, it should remain at a near-constant temperature as up and down temp changes are really bad for the wine. It should be a generally dry place, too. If its too humid you risk compromising the cork. A closet would work, or a basement if you have one.
If possible, store the bottles on their sides so that the wine covers the cork. Use something to cover the bottles or put them in a box so they dont get all dusty. Dont store your whites for too long; most whites do not get better with age.
You can find specific information about serving temperatures for wines online or in a book. There are thermometers and cooling gizmos and wine refrigerators which can help you achieve the perfect temperature, depending on the wine. However, these are not absolutely necessary. If you want to serve champagne for example, throw it in your fridge an hour or two before and it will chill up nicely.
Keep the bolttle of the wine horizontally, if you wish to keep it for a long time....and red wine is stored at room temperature....while white wine is store at the temperature of 6-18 degrees celsius...and it can also be store at room temperature.
In the belly. (Warm and dark, but it doesn't stay there long.)
I keep it indoors. (Out of the elements--wind, rain, snow, harsh sunlight, etc.)
Once you have it inside (house or apartment, either is ok), then it is best to put it out of sight so as not to tempt yourself into drinking it all up before the guests arrive (friends, relatives, in-laws, or even neighbors if you are fortunate enough to live in a nice area).
Out of sight can be accomplished through the use of a cabinet or cupboard, in the case of white wine, a refrigerator or if the refrgerator is not working, you may store red wine there as there is no real need to chill red wine (unless your air cond. is disable or otherwise out of service and the ambient indoor temperature rises above what one would consider comfortable, then one may indeed store red wine in a refrigerator or other cooling device, as slightly chilled red wine is preferable to hot red wine, at least in summer, and even so you may remove the wine from the fridge, if you'll allow me to use a colloquialism, sufficiently in advance of the anticipated event such that the wine may both breathe (metaphorically speaking) as well as rise to the desired serving temperature which is just under room temp but certainly well above the temp required for iced beverages such as beer or white wine, in other words, about 55 to 60 degrees farenheit.
