Ooooooooooh, it angers me too. How dare they put that swill in the same category as my Bollinger!
It anger me too but, it's just ignorance from them.. They think that everything that sparkle is champagne.. I give them a lil crash course about the topic hoping they will order it right the next time :P
The idea that someone who starts a sentence with "like" and says "aint" and "reckon" could be anal about the word selection for anything is hilarious... When someone orders a "beer" are you equally annoyed they have not ordered it as an ale or lager, better yet, more specifically as one the 50+ sub divisions of beer or do you only get anal with wine (perhaps whine would be better written). If someone orders a martini with vodka rather than Gin do you point out that it's not really a martini? How would you handle a more knowledgeable customer criticizing your choice of glassware for his drink, if he sent back a weizen because you served him it in a pint glass? Or for your preparation of a drink (it could go both ways)
The customer is always right, I'd move on... The bar business is about pleasing customers, setting an atmosphere and raking in tips, not doing the oppositte.
In America, all carbonated wine is called champagne.
Just like a Chevy is still called a car,
or even a George Bush is referred to as a "man" (though I think most Americans are aware that this is only in the metaphorical sense).
This is a problem for you?
Have you seen the newspapers???
Why are you focusing on this?
I work at a liquor store and when people ask for Korbel Champagne I just hand them the bottle, To many years of wasting my time explaining, Same thing with Cognacs and brandy's....
