I would say you can do pretty good with $40. I've had to spend a Whole heck of a lot more that that on everything I have, but if that's all you want, you can do fine. I'm in Ohio, so these are the prices here. Buy these:

Rum: Bacardi - 375ml bottle - About $7
Vodka: Absolut - 375ml bottle - About $10-$11 -OR
----Smirnoff - 375ml bottle - About $6
Whiskey: Crown Royal - 375ml bottle - About $15 -OR-
----Jack Daniel's - 375ml bottle - About $12
Gin: Tanqueray - 375ml bottle - About $11 -OR-
----Bombay Sapphire - 375ml bottle - About $15

Depends a great deal on where you live.

Not much... but you can buy a lot of soda

That depends a lot on where you are and what your standards of decent are. Go shopping and figure it out.

Probably 2 750ml bottles of midshelf stuff. Maybe 3-4 bottles of cheaper stuff. Midshelf Vodka (smirnoff) and Rum (captain or bacardi) will also be cheaper than midshelf whiskey (jack or beam) or gin.

in my area, probably a 1L of captains and 750mL of ketel one vodka or a 1L of Smirnoff.

if you go with a 750 of captains and a 750 of smirnoff, you'll have about $10 left over. you could get a 375 of jager with that, or a 375 of jack is probably about $10.

captain morgan rum, ketel one vodka or smirnoff vodka isn't too expensive oh and of course the jagermeister

you could get 3 maybe 4 bottles depends what prices but most likely 3 with some $ leftover
