What is the drinking age in Italy? Why is it different than the U.S. (if it is different)?!

Question: Europeans have a MUCH more inlightened view on drinking...

It isn't a "Taboo" thing there because it is just another daily part of life...

It isn't a culture of "LETS GET WASTED! WHOOO!" it is a culture of "Lets have a glass with dinner to relax and have a good evening."

When I first went to europe, I was 15 and I was allowed to drink everywhere I went.

For some reason in America, we have lost the ability to control ourselves and have deamonised alcohol...

We have this whole idea that if you drink ANYTHING then you should drink until you black out... Which is just stupid...

Drinking in moderation seems unheard of here...

It is a very sad thing...

Our ideas on drinking lead to kids going "OMG! If I drink then I will look cool because my mom and dad tell me it is wrong and evil and horrible!"

So they go out at a very young age and start doing a dozen shots of vodka and then drive...

Our ideas on booze are all jacked up.

Most of Europe is 18

They are a sovereign country and can do whatever they want.

The legal drinking age in Italy is 16....

The US has the highest drinking age limits of any western nation. It is an anomaly to those of us whom do not live there. You can drive a car, have a gun, get put into jail, vote but you are not adult enough to drink. Thus preventing any sort of adult social life until a person is 21.

Here is a table of drinking ages in a few countries. Italy is definitely 16y.
