Wine favorites are such an individual taste. What I like and what you like can be 2 different things. I would tell your waiter what you like and let them recommend a wine.
If you don't have the taste for a specific wine 60$ might be more of a wine than you can appreciate. You can usually get something nice for 25ish.
More so now people just drink the wine they like, but the rule of thumb is usually reds with meats and saucy Italian, and whites with fish. Pork can go either way.
For reds I like Petit Syrah by Boogle. (about 17$)
For white I just love E&J turning leaf Chardonay (15$)

My taste is for big bold reds, that are peppery and plum.
I like my whites buttery and oaked, NOT crisp and fruity.

If you give some more information on the restaurants web site I might be able to give you a recommendation on something nice.

Good luck!!

Edit:
There are so many wines on that list , ask the waiter, you might even just consider wines by the glass instead of a bottle. Just in case you get a bottle you dont like. This will also give you a chance to sample several wines.
This place might not do it, but you can sample wines, its called a "flight". its samples of three or four wines.

RED WINE is the cooolest :D

In this situation the best course is to actually ask the waiter or waitress what they would recommend with the dinner you are ordering. Since you mentioned that this is a fancy restaurant, they may even have a wine steward, who will be an even better person to ask for pairing a wine with a dish.

Personally I like a good Pinot Grigio with chicken or fish and as for red wines, my experience is there are few good sweet reds that I like, but look for ones that have soft in there description as that is a telltale that they are sweet.

Looking at the wine list, it will depend on whether you want a red wine or a white wine. Typically red wine suits red-blooded meat (gamey meals) and white wine suits more chicken and fish dishes.
From the wine list given, for a white wine may i suggest a Gewurtztraminer (you won't find many sweeter wines that aren't a dessert wine. Gewurtz typically has very tropical fruit characteristics, and I find it usually smells of lychees etc. it's great) and for a red, I suggest one of the Syrah and Ganache blended wines (the Ganache will always provide great berry characteristics with lots of cherries etc. very nice and quite fruity on the palate). Hope this helps!

I really don't know what wine to pick. It all depends on your palate(taste) and your food choice. If you were thinking about getting some old world wines heres a tip. You see some wines with "Grand Cru" on it. All it is is the French wine ranking. Grand Cru is the lowest, Next is the Grand Cru Classe, and Finally the top rated wines are called Premier Grand Cru Classe wines.

I had a chance to look at the wine list.

If you are definitely looking for a sweet wine, rather than just fruity, then I would go for the 2005 Selbach-Oster Riesling Spatlese. At $32 for the half bottle, it's well within your budget, and you still have money left over for dessert wine at the end.

If you need a full bottle, for $69 there is the 2005 Gunderloch Spatlese Nackenheim Rothenberg, which comes from the Rheinhessen region. My family had this wine last night for Easter supper. It was so refreshing, light and balanced. Very sweet, but with enough acidity to make it seem weightless.

If $69 is too much, the wine list has several other 2005's which should all be stunning. 2005 was an amazing year across all regions and all classifications in Germany. You could pretty much pick at random and find a well made and balanced wine from that year.

Have a great dinner!

Red wine is a good wine...

being a wine lover and a lover of red wine , i think the best wine to drink with dinner is a red zinfindel, it is really smooth and not bitter because it is not to dry and not to sweet , have fun

The wine you select should be one that goes well with the food you order. A good server can usually suggest a good wine that goes with a meal.

Which wine to drink is always a matter of personal choice. However, there are some basics for pairing food and wine. For a complete online guide to choosing a wine to complement a meal go to: http://www.cheers2wine.com/food-and-wine...

Cheers!
