Why do the traditional bitter beers seem to be dying in Australia?!

Question:

Why do the traditional bitter beers seem to be dying in Australia?

It seems the Australian beer pallette is changing. The bitter and darker brands such as Tooheys Old , Melbourne Bitter, XXXX Bitter and even Victoria Bitter are all losing out to beers like Tooheys Extra Dry, Becks, Corona and Stella Artois. Why is this happening? Is it taste or is it the allure of something new?

Answers:
Drinking light and mid-strenght beer means you have to drink more to get drunk. Also you can drink a couple of light beers and not be over the limit so therefore you can still drive home. I personally don't like any of that fancy Corona or Stella Artois crap, I'm a XXXX Gold Girl.

maybe people drank it so much.

its the pantie waist urban males in Sidney and Melbourne that are becoming wine sippers and the beer makers have to compete for the market..women think bitters make them fat and they are becoming wine sippers too.I believe its somewhat alluring something new also...

I work in a bottle shop and I would have to say it's because more people are drinking the low carb beers because they are trying to reduce there beer gut.
