Is a bottle of 5 year old 26% mango liquer safe to drink?!

Question:

Is a bottle of 5 year old 26% mango liquer safe to drink?

I have a bottle of japanese mango liquer which is about 5 years old but it was opened about 4 years ago. It is about 3/4 full, and the cap is closed relatively tightly. Is it still safe to drink?

Answers:
Clarity and smell should tell you if it is still good. If you pour some, and it smells foul and looks like a cesspool it will get you sick.

The reason humans evolved a sense of smell is to protect themselves from eating stuff that is spoiled.

Alcohol is a pretty good preservative. That is why most bottles of liquer will not have a "refrigerate after opening" warning on the bottles.

26% is a bit on the low side however. I'd feel very comfortable if it were 40-50% but at 26% I'd be cautious.

not if its already been opened 4 years ago

Sure it may taste even better.

i dont know being that its been open that long if nothing else it sounds like it would give you the shits

the taste test always works- take a very tiny sip. not gulp, sip. if it tastes funky, throw it out.

i think it should still be safe for consumption, though. alcohol has bacteriacidal effects

yes, why not...
