Will your local pub be empty?!

Question:

Will your local pub be empty?

When the smoking ban starts in July.

Answers:
I already live in a state with a smoking ban. It's actually kind of nice once I got used to it. We smokers just go outside and smoke and talk. And we don't smell as much like a bar when we go home. It takes a couple months to get used to it, but the places around here have put overhangs for the weather and portable heaters in the smoking area. They don't want to lose the smokers' business. After a while it's just normal to know you have to go outside to their patio.

No, think its by gone days when all pubs were v smoky anyways!! I havent been in many pubs that are v smoky, apart from ones that are clearly dives. I actually dont thnk itl have tht much of an impact, it hasnt in Ireland like they thought it would. Personally tihnk its a great idea, as anyone smoking is one person too many. This is my view of smoking due to passive smoking. Dont care if people smoke, and the government love it due to the tax of course so itl never be properly banned, but as long as they dont do it anywhere i am, and as im young like going out to pubc and clubs and dont see why ppl shud smoke. Itl do ppl a favour anyways, as smoking whilst drinking increase the bad effects ciggies have on your heart!!! combines with somethig in the alcohol so both taken togethe is a bad combo, almost doubles chance of heart disease to smoke at same time as drinking alcohol!

Ours has already started in Wales- I think people will just get used to it- as they have done in Ireland. A bit miserable for the smokers in winter though.

No, but I think there's going to be alot of sneaking smokes in the bathroom.

No, we just go outside

No. Never in a hundred years!

Take care.

no probably be fuller

yours started in july?! ours, here in ohio, started in dec/jan and its ALREADY being changed. so no worries.

no - i'll be there celebrating!

I live in Los Angeles and we've had a ban in place for a long time. At first the bars suffered a little bit, but then the customers returned. I just go outside and smoke now. The only thing I don't like is having to leave my drink unattended while I'm outside smoking, because we're not allowed to have drinks outside.

It did hurt some businesses in NJ. For a state that doesn't have the same demographics as NY or CA will get hit big time, NJ is seeing that now. Since business owners complaints to the state fell on deaf ears, no one is being reimbursed as of yet. Every business owner should get together and file a class action suit! Who is going to replace the regulars that get sick and tired of standing outside like a pack of rats, then decide to party it up their house? It’s the trend now. As soon as Atlantic City banned smoking, all the smokers went to Philly casinos. Atlantic City looks like a ghost town compared to what it was pre-smoking ban. Watch and see how Atlantic City falls apart this summer to the point where NJ doesn’t have that tax money coming in. Customers complained for the simple fact that kids are running around in what use to be the smoking sections. This is anywhere from a diner to a chain restaurant. People that didn't even smoke would be in the smoking section just to get away from noisy kids. No matter how anyone looks at it, there is more than secondhand that kills the public. Just look at the side effects from all the prescription "medication".

Why do you think the ban is starting in July. The only time most people will be in the bar is to get their drink, then straight outside again.
What is wrong with allowing it in places where no food is being served, as long as the owner/landlord puts a notice that smoking is allowed prominently at the entrance. People have minds of their own and, contrary to government and medical opinion, they can make their own decision whether to enter the premises or not.

no now in scotland there is more than there was!!!!

there are loads of pubs shutting down all the time, but i think its due to expensive drink and less disposable income.ive noticed this last few years that smokers are a minority now in pubs, and they are pretty resigned to the ban coming in,the only smoker in our group the other night said he was going to use the ban for a reason to stop.our local wetherspoons has been non smoking for years and its always busy.a lot of pubs by us have already had awnings fitted in their back yards ready for the ban ,patio heaters included!!!

nope..they're still open in california

The amount of people who have told me that they will go out more is unbelievable

In California, there has been a smoking ban for many years. No, the pubs did not empty out. Yes, the pubs continued to make money. Yes, the waitress' appreciate working in a healthy environment. No, it wasn't the end of the world for the smokers.

Cheers!

no, cos you will have all the non-smokers going out to makea point and to say "oh isnt it lovely in here without all that nasty smoke...blah blah blah"

Yes in deed We will all be having house partys I think .

The answer is not to go outside we will not be allowed to smoke there either infact there has already been a case where a neighbour took her next door neighbour to court as she said she could smell her ciggarette smoke through the walls.

No, most pubs in Scotland became busier after the ban. Most smokers still go to the pub and more non-smokers now go because the atmosphere is usually more pleasant.

However, it has become apparent that in some pubs the smoke was quite effective at disguising the smells from the toilets and/or some of their customers. Yuck!

It already is, but that is probably because it's a sh*thole.
