Question:

In the 1800 what was a 'tot'?

reading a book about the 1800, on a miltiary ship the captian says 'an extra Tot for these men' as a reward... is Tot rum?

Answers:
It is a measure or Rum that seamen were given daily along with their ration of beer.
The water was so unreliable, quality wise it was better to have beer available as it kept longer.

Means like children.

They use to drink a totty at bedtime, he may have been telling the server to give them the extra tot for short.I really am not sure...
