You'd have to make the Jello, then put some in a dish or other container (filled 1/2 or less, depending on size of object you're using, to center it) and chill it til jelled, then put in the object and more liquid Jello over it, then chill again. You'd be better off using the Knox-blocks, or Jigglers recipe, since it gets stiffer.

Hahah I remember when he did that to Dwight right? I love the Office :)

Yes, it's possible... but serioulsy- don't ruin someone's cell phone. Oh- you could shrink wrap it first and then it would be ok!

Anyway, what I would do is pick a very light colored jello, and get some knox gelatin too. Youll want to find 2 containers to use as molds that are the same size- anything you have laying around. Best thing I can think is to prepare the jello before bed and stick it in the fridge, then take it to wherever you're going to pull the prank. When the person is distracted, unmold the jello (a short dip in warm water will work) slide the phone or whatever into the bottom jello and put the other piece on top.
Or, if you can hold the item hostage for several hours, pour a few inches into the bottom of the mold and let it get firm. Then stick the item in and pour more jello over the top, letting that firm up.
Jello will set up better if you use a few packets of knox gelatin in there- it's unflavored jello. Don't increase the water, just use some of the water called for on the jello box to "bloom" the knox, then stir it into the flavored jello.

Er... good luck?

my husband did this at work with some stuff - he just chucked some Jelly in an ice cream container, let it half set, shoved the stapler into it, let it fully set and turned it upside down on a plate... no worries.
