Why does beer make you piss, but spirits inhibit it?!

Question: If my wife drinks only beer she has to piss a lot, but if she adds a few stiff whiskies to her tumbler, nothing comes out. She sleeps (and snores) all night. Where does all the liquid go?

Whisky is stronger and the body releases the anti-diuretic hormone as a result of the concentrated alcohol. She also sleeps heavily and does not wake up to run to the loo.

probably cuz of all the sugar in the spirits
I know the feeling beer makes you pee but oh is it good
on a hot day a nice cold cerveza Tecate

beer is a known diuretic

Could have something to do with the fact that there's a lot more liquid in a pint of beer than a couple of shots of whisky.

I imagine some of it would have to do with actual volume consumed. A shot of whiskey and a beer have roughly the same amount of alcohol (on average) and while a beer is 12 oz. a shot will be only 1-2 oz. Most people will be unlikely to drink anything else during that period. So if you have 4 beers, you are consuming 48 oz of liquid, but 4 shots will only give you about 6-8 oz of liquid for roughly the same effect from the alcohol. And since alcohol dehyrates you, the shots will likely have a more dramatic effect, since there is no extra water, as there is in the beer.

Could it have something to do with the volume?, there is alot more fluid in, say a pint, than there is in a short.

Alcohol actually dehydrates the body. You pee a lot after beer because of the volume of liquid relative to its alcoholic content. Half-way house, of course, is wine.

If she drinks the same amount whisky as beer then she has a serious problem, do you realise how many shots it takes to fill a half pint glass up, how many halves does she have in a session?

its because beer has gas to it and passes through your system very quick.

It doesn't, in my experience.

I've I'm drinking spirits, then I piss more than normal. Not a lot more, because there's not much more volume, but noticeably.

I think you've just got a missus with a weird metabolism.
