Alcoholic gene question...?
I guess my question is, is there such thing as the alcoholic gene? How do you know you have it? and how many drinks does it take to get drunk with someone with the alcoholic gene.

Yes there is such a gene, or at least an inherited predisposition toward alcoholism. If you have it or not can't be said, and it doesn't have any effect on your drinking, that is a matter of metabolism, height, weight, sex and amount of body fat (the more you have the more it takes to get drunk). But just because you have the predisposition, does not mean you will become an alcoholic. There is still a great amount of personal choice - if you abstain, have a good family life and got it together, you don't have to be an alcoholic.
i dont believe in alcoholics......see, theres this thing i like to call.....SELF CONTROL! as long as you have self control, you'll be fine.
Brenda how can you say you dont believe in acoholic but turn around and call youre dad one. Thats great if you have so calle selfcontrol. but acoholism is a disease plan a simple. hope you dont get it.
