If it's going out... you'll have to nurse, unless you go to a dive or university bar. Depends on where you are. Montreal, par example, is far easier to get a cheap drink than, say, Vancouver. I've heard Alberta is the cheapest, though.

The dollar isn't doing that hot, but I was just in a duty free shop this past weekend and got 1.75 liters of good quality gin for about 24 CAD. Even with the exchange rate that's not anymore than $25 US dollars. Duty free shops generally sell alcohol for CHEAP and only to those who are 21 or older, if they're going right back to the U.S.
All I can tell you is drinks are expensive at bars in Canada lol. I really don't know about buying alcohol in a store. I DO know that it's a bit cheaper in general than in the states.
Typical 750ml of general spirits Canadian Club ,Captain Morgan, Smirnoff etc will run you about $22-24
Premium stuff like Absolut and Canadian Club Classic about $2.00 more
in a bar you are looking at between $4-6 bucks a drink depending where you go (unless the bar has a special)
