Any good Stout or Porter will have similar characteristics, as will an obscure British ale called 'Black and Tan'.
There are many brands of Stout several varieties of it too
Oatmeal Stout
Dry Stout (or 'Irish' stout') like Guiness
Imperial Stout
Baltic Porter
Milk Stout
Coffee Stout
Chocolate Stout
Oyster Stout.
Porter is similar but is not usually considered a variety of stout, rather stout was derived from London Porter, though the name 'stout' has been in use for describing different beers (eg: 'stout pale ale') since the mid 1600's..
Stout originated in England, and was introduced to Ireland as a derivation of Porter. A common misconception is that Arthur Guiness developed the beer style we call 'stout' today.
I love it too!!! I first tried it in Ireland about 7 years ago--good stuff!!! Have you ever tried "Smithwick's" (I hear pronounced "smit-icks"), made at the Guinness Brewery also. A dark beer, but not as thick. Good though. I'm sipping my other favorite beer now: "Leinenkugel's Red"..good also!!! I for the life of me can't figure out why people like "Killian's Red" beer...to me it has NO taste whatsoever. Leinies is great...good flavor, body, etc.:

God bless you. I couldn't drink a whole shot glass of Guinness, let along a can or a six pack. To me, it tastes like mineral-laden mud.
My husband loves it, and so do a lot of other people, so you aren't alone. That's good, because if it was up to me to save them, they'd already be out of business.
Because it's BRILLIANT! One of the founders of Guinness learned how to brew hops with precision and discovered a statistics concept - the 't test' - to measure the integrity of the final products in the process.
It;s made of malt.
Of course it goes down easy, it is low in alcohol and has just slightly more calories than a light beer. But, it does have flavor and color. Guiness is a highly overated beer, and most of it is not made in Ireland, unless you are in Ireland at the time. The widget is a nitrogen charged capsule that releases when you open the beer to inject it full of nitrogen, so it is more similar to the Guiness on tap. Guiness makes a thick concentrated syrup, that they send all over the world for local breweries to dilute down, so it will usually taste different depending on where you are. Guiness is the budweiser of stouts.
Guinness is a stout, and i agree stouts are wonderful. Another big name is Smithwick's (pronounced Smiddick's) is another great stout, very similar to guinness. You should try some microbrews. The best beers in the world come from Microbreweries. Try Rogue Shakespeare Stout or Stone Smoked Porter (porter's are a bit lighter in feel than stouts, but taste is very similar.
Guiness is not bad, I'll order it at a bar if my only other choices are Bud, Miller, etc. Guiness has a lower alcohol by volume and is really easy to drink, but it's a little watered down compared to other stouts.
Try a different stout time you go to the liquor store; try Rogue's Shakespeare stout or their Chocolate stout, Sam Smith's Oatmeal Stout, Southern Tier's Jah-va, & Dogfish Head Chicory stout... There are a lot of great craft breweries that make different, rich, more complex stouts. Many of them also have higher alcohol by volume. After drinking these, a Guiness will actually taste flat and watery!
Guinness is an entry level stout. I tend towards the Extra Stout if I'm going to drink it at all anymore. Of course I turned my back on them when they stopped making it in Ireland. Did you know that Guinness is just a giant Mr. Beer operation. They make an extract in Ireland and ship that to Canada to mix with a local beer to create a "Guinness flavor." There are at least two brewers of it in Canada that supply the US, that's why if you have a Guinness on the east coast it tastes slightly different than one on the west coast. Anyway, I'm getting off subject.
Guinness is OK. Now that you've had it start moving up the stout food chain. If you can find it try Hoppin Frog's B.O.R.I.S. The Crusher Oatmeal-Imperial Stout, one of my personal favorites. After that you can try something from Stone.. they make damn good stouts. Better yet try Dogfish Head's World Wide Stout... At 17% or 18% it is not only delicious but it will kick you a##.
