Beer poll: Have you tried any new beers lately? What types?!

Question: I tried something new to me, last week. Called: Purple Haze. It is a raspberry wheat beer, bottled with pure spring water from the Abita Beer company. abita.com

It was not bad and it did have a slightly sweet taste of raspberries but at $7.00 a six pack, I wont be buying it again. I mean I liked it, but not that much. Still it was nice to try it once. The brewery is from Louisiana.

So, what have you tried lately and what did you think of them?

Oh, man. I'm constantly trying new stuff. Last week I was at the Michigan Brewers Guild Winter Beer Festival and I tried a few brilliant beers for the first time.
Kuhnhenn Framboise from Kuhnhenn Brewery in Warren, MI
Brilliant raspberry flavor. I've never had a beer like it, though I've tried plenty of fruit beers in the past. The only way to describe it is the aroma / flavor of fresh raspberries on the vine on a warm summer day. I couldn't get enough!

Oober Goober Peanut Butter Stout from Short's Brewing Company, Bellaire, MI
A rich stout brewed with organic peanut butter! Outstanding! This beer is inspiring a Butterfinger Beer I'll be brewing in a month or two.

Imperial Hefeweizen from Big Rock Chop House and Brewery in Birmingham, MI
Think of the best German wheat beer you've ever had, then double the hops and double the malt, thereby increasing the alcohol and the warmth of the beer. If I'm not mistaken it was around 10% and amazingly smooth for a high-gravity hybrid beer!

Founders Kentucky Breakfast Stout 2008 from Founders Brewing Company in Grand Rapids, MI
This is a Bourbon-barrel-aged version of their standard Breakfast Stout (which is an Imperial Stout). Absolutely brilliant! Very limited, and ready to age. I was lucky enough to get a glass at the brewery, and then I bought 3 4-packs at 15.99 each so I have enough to cellar and drink as well!

There's more, but that's enough for now!

(EDIT)
STLlady - Just FYI, both Landshark and Shock Top are made by Anheuser-Busch, just so you know. They are both part of the new "pseudo-craft-style" beer offerings the company is concocting to try and regain market share and also in an attempt to dumb down the category with inferior products.

I haven't really tried anything new lately, but I have had good Polish beer, and one from Denmark.

I also tried Great Lakes beer which is out of Cleveland and some of their different types of beers are alright.

Steamboat form San Fransico. Very good

Yes! Zlatorog is a Slovenian beer which is a lager. Comes in 500 mL bottles.

I recently tried a bottle of "Red Poppy" it was a little to sour for my liking but not bad. I believe they are about $10 a 375mL bottle. I also recently opened a bottle of "Angel's share" that I purchased about 18 months ago. It has aged very well but still needs a little more time. I believe I got that for $13 a 750mL bottle, but now worth over $50.

Coors Light because it was on special offer (I don't normally drink lager) . I have to say it was pretty bland. Mind you, it would probably be quite refreshing on a hot summer's day.

lav pivo 7 ,its made in serbia and it has 7,2% alc in it (thats why it has 7 in its name :P ) tried it few days ago and it gets u drunk pretty fast, after 1-2 cans

I tried 2 new ones I really liked...

One was called Land Shark it is a Margaritaville beer and the other is called Shock Top it is a Belgium Wheat served with an orange...both were very good!

I'm obsessed with trying new stuff, last night I had an Otter Creek ESB and a Rock Art Brewery Barleywine...both not bad at all!

On Wednesday, I went to a local brewery and tried one of their smoked porters. It was one of the best porters I've had in a while! So rich and delicious. Then to switch things up, I sampled a half pint of their Double IPA..holy crap, it was absolutely tasty! I could drink them all night long, but the alcohol content was 8.5% abv!

You should keep trying new stuff, you really get what you pay for in terms of taste and quality of ingredients. It becomes more about quality than quantity...once you start drinking good stuff, you can never go back!

Recently I've tried some Shipyard Brewery beers at Sunday River in Maine. I tried the Thumper, which was an extra special English ale, I believe, and the Export. I liked the Thumper a lot, the Export was alright.

Jamaican red stripe is good. Any Sam Adams is great. I love Micalob amber bock. Shiner Bock from Texas. Steam and Anchor is good. Blue Moon is Another. Bass is good. LeinenKugals is good. My all time favorite is Grolsh, but it runs eight or nine bucks for six bottles.

Genesee Cream Ale, medal winner at Aspen Intl. Beer Fest and cheap. Nectar of the gods!

I have not tried a new beer lately. Great idea though and I think I will take you up on it. I have been so busy with work I just keep the same ole beer in am ice chest so when I get home there is an ice cold waiting for me after my stressful day. Love, honey

I'm only 14 so haven't been drinking long (I'm not a teenage binge drinker, it just drink at home on the weekends) and was drinking Guinness until I tried the mother of all beers, Newcastle Brown. I also tried Bishop's finger and Fyrsty Ferret which were both nice.

Drop Top Ale
