Why do we americans drink beer that's like watered down urine?
there are some good beers like sam adams, and you can always find local microbreweries that serve good beer, but as far as massively popular everyday beers, it's all horrible. i'm thinking of stuff like natty ice, michelob, coors, budweiser, mgd. what's wrong with us? why do we drink this stuff?
if you compare it to newcastle or guinness it's embarrassing.

I have a theory why Americans drink watered down beers. I think it's because some Americans find it easier to drink thus they can drink more of it in a shorter amount of time.
When I was in college (Chico State in CA), we used to buy kegs of Natty Light, Milwaukee's "Best", etc. because it was cheap and you could pound it!
Sometimes, my buddies and I would go to the Sierra Nevada Brewery and have a Pale Ale and take our time to enjoy the complexities of the brew.
It just depends on your objective!

I completely agree, I think people just don't try good beer and don't know its out there. Its the only explanation I can come up with.

I've never tried watered down urine...or any other kind! I would never drink any of the stuff you listed either...
There's nothing wrong with the folks who drink what you consider undesirable beer...it is just whatever you're used to. If they lifted it from their folks when they were a bit younger - then they have nothing (good) to compare it to.
It may be all they've ever known. Beer...any kind is an acquired taste. The poor things just acquired the wrong one!

Because, if it was not watered down, then it would really taste like urine. At least, if it is watered down, you benefit from a little hydration while recycling the urine.

Advertising, look at the ad budgets of the major brewers compared to the craft brewers. The reason we drink it is we were programed too.
I am not sure where I heard this, but I seem to remember being told that the beers we drink today are from an attempt to boost sells to women. During the second world war, most of the men in the U.S. who would normally be hitting the bar on the way home from work were busy fighting a war. The big brewers were losing sales, so they developed "lighter" beers that would appeal to the ladies who were now the ones headed home from the workplace. And people just got used to drinking it. Then we decided that the American Style Lager needed to be turned even lighter. (Bud-Light) It is just what we have acquired a taste for. I used to drink bud-light, but then I got a real job and started drinking the micro-brewed darker beers. Now, I won't drink any of the mass-produced beers that I used to steal from my parents... Our beers suck. That is just something else we can blame on the attack on Pearl Harbor. December 7, 1941 will indeed be a day that lives in infamy...
