ABSINTH? Anyone drank it?!

Question: Has anyone drank it? Does it make you hallucinate? Does it taste good?

Since it just became legal again here in the US last summer, we ordered a bottle in the autumn. I loved it, especially after we had actually prepared it with the water and sugar. I am not a big fan of Ouzo or Anisette, but I do like Absinthe. Part of it may be that we bought one of the most expensive bottles available--it came from France and the shipping was half of the total cost.

I did not hallucinate, though I might if I drank enough. Several of my friends have had weird visuals when drinking it in the past (stuff which was smuggled home from trips abroad). However, I take a lot of heavy-duty prescription drugs, and that has made my liquor tolerance go through the roof. I can drink all night and not get drunk, so that may explain my lack of hallucinations.

I do really like it. It leaves a pleasant warmth on the tongue and in the chest as it goes down, and the other flavors, besides the anise, make a very nice flavor. Go ahead and give it a try.

Whooo, the green fairy.
Doesnt taste good but it's well worth it.
Seriously.

No, but I will eventually. I think the ones sold now are watered down somewhat. Absinthe enthusiast Marilyn Manson came out with his own version but I heard it sucked. Anyway, I think it might have some hallucinogenic properties, but I don't think you drink it cuz you like the taste. "Absinthe makes the heart grow fonder." Yup. Be careful.

Only the really strong types make you hallucinate. Like a 75% Thujone level would to that. It tastes bad (black licorice and earthy flavors), which is why you prepare it. It's more of a sophisticated drink, like an old brandy in a velvet case.

it taste like ouzo , but way stronger. whoa. i couldnt finish the shot.

I don't understand why people think that Absinthe tastes bad, I think its delicious. Its very strong but with no hallucinative effects as it is illegal to sell any which do that.

I have never had it, but it supposedly tastes terrible! If you try it, don't have much because it is realllllly strong

My first time I have Absinth is at Babarosa, a beautiful exotic place, plus with a Brit gentleman, that is perfect formula for night!

Whatelse you want for spice your life in the world!

I have had the czech stuff. It does not make you hallucinate and unless you get the sugar/water/booze ratio just right it does not really taste good. It basically tastes like really bitter sambuca.

In Okinawa, Japan. My friend and I waved bye bye to each other as we drank it. The lights in the club went dimmer, but I could still here the music. The opium doesn't make you hallucinate. It tasted good. It's like a very huge cloud that comes in quickly. It feels like a smart wasted buzz.

It is very bitter and gives me the worst headaches. I quit drinking it. Wormwood is poison.

Drink it. Find out and have fun. I had some in Belgrade and thoroughly enjoyed the experience. Still felt like being drunk.
It has a pleasant taste, but you should water it down as %70+ ABV has a tendency to numb your tongue rather than make you look like a hard man.
Absinthe makes the tart grow fonder.

The latest product from the Czech Republic sold here in Mexico has no hallucinogenic properties. Spring Beakers are buying it in large quantities seeking a look at the Green Fairy. Nasty taste.
