Answers:
Yes for both. In general, white wines are served colder than reds. Also, in general, the better the wine, the warmer it is served, for its type.

Practically, it works something like this:

Very good to great red wines should be served in the low to mid 60s (the "room temperature" which you'll hear about is European room temp, about 6+ degrees lower than in the States).

Moderate quality red wines, somewhere between the mid 50s to 60.

Young and fruity reds (like Beaujolais) often are served under 50.

Very good to great whites should be served in the 50s

Moderate quality whites mid 40s

Young and inexpensive whites in the lower 40s.

Keep in mind that this is a very rough rule of thumb. One way to get a feel for it is to experiment. Serve the wine a bit colder that you think it should be and keep tasting it as it warms.

Another good idea is to buy from a store that takes pride in selling wine and ask the clerks "At what temperature would serve this wine?".

I chill both, I like my drinks COLD! But, wine lovers will tell you that reds should be served at room temp, whites should be chilled.
