Do people drink alcohol because they like the taste or because they want to be drunk(er)?!

Question: ....For a long time I've thought people drink to become drunk (or at least more inebriated than they were before) but one of my friends said they think its because people like the taste of alcohol and being drunk is a side-effect. I don't drink too much so it's kind of hard for me to say. I usually drink to escape reality a little and don't concentrate on the taste of what I'm drinking.

I do drink alcohol because I like the taste. I am a wine drinker and have 1 from time to time. not to mention the mixed drinks are fantastic. but i am sure to just have one. it doesn't get me that tipsy and is a nice treat. now if you asked me 20 years ago the answer may be differrent. "Most do want the drunk feeling the taste is just second to that." lol we live and learn I guess.

both

I drink for the taste - my parents encouraged me to like the taste of decent beers, wine etc when I was in my teens. From what a lot of people say to me, plenty of them drink to get drunk. It's quite a good side-effect if not taken too far! But I sometimes wish that there were nice beers that didn't get me drunk, so I could just enjoy the taste.

Honestly both

I drank to get drunk...taste was just a side benefit.

UM I think people drink to get drunk. but it also depends what you are drinking. like wine for example is something that people drink n they sip it nice n slow n really ENJOy it. where as me n my friends take shot after shot of nastyy vodka n we even ask each other why are we doin this, lol but it gets the job done HaHaHa

both lol

Well I can't speak for others, but I personally won't drink things that I don't like the taste of---period. Now if it is something I like or love---I've been known to drink until I was comfortably numb, and then some!!!

Both. It depends on my mood and intention as rather or not I get drunk.

I typically drink for the taste.

I'm primarily a beer drinker and even then only drink well made imports and craft beers.

If I wanted to drink to get drunk, I would drink some nasty yellow swill like Bud Light....

That all being said... some of the beers I drink, in particular the Belgian Ales that I love so much are quite strong and I sometimes end up 'feeling it' a little bit, even though that's normally not the intention.
