Do you think I'm an alcoholic?!

Question: I get about 3 drinks everytime I go out, which is maybe once or twice a month. (Two long islands, and a beer)
I drink about two short glasses of vodka and cranberry about 3 or 4 times out the week when I come home from work, and I have a beer in the morning occasionally (maybe like once every two months)
Do you think I'm an alcoholic and need help? I just like to unwind when I come home from work and alcohol helps me relax.

If you feel you have a problem just try to go without drinking and see what happens. Try to find some other way to relax after work.

Try out this test.

No

Well the beer in the morning may be a little much, but who am I to judge. Good luck with finding your answer.

I'd say you aren't, but others will say you are.
Here;s how I judge:
Have you ever missed work because of drinking?
Have your loved ones ever expressed concern over your drinking? Have you ever "blacked out" (forgotten large periods of time) from drinking? Do you ever eagerly look forward to a drink?

If you can say yes to any of those, you are in trouble...

not unless you feel like you are dependent on the alcohol. it doesnt really sound like it though. if you feel like you could stop today and it wouldnt affect you then no. if you feel like you cannot live with out it then maybe yeah.

Maybe. People are creatures of habit, so right now you're in the habit of drinking a lot. If you're not an alcoholic, you can give it up for 2 weeks. I would suggest taking a yoga class or getting exercise or taking a hot bath to relax while you test yourself to see if you are able to give up alcohol. If you feel a lot of withdrawal, you have a physical or psychological addiction to alcohol. You can also try non-alcoholic beer, which sounds silly to me, but I am being serious. Maybe it will work like a placebo for you because the taste is comforting?

usually if you have to drink in the morning that is a bit extreme. if you cant function thru your day with out alcohol then you are an alcoholic. if you only drink in the morning once every 2 months, you got to ask your self why?

no your not , alcoholics never know when to stop, drinking in moderation is fine and doesnt mean you are an alcoholic at all.

I'm not sure if you would be classified an alcoholic, but it sounds like you could possibly develop an alcohol dependency in the future, especially if stress is a trigger for your drinking.

beer, it is not just for breakfast anymore,.....

no

If you have to ask the question maybe you do have a problem with drinking. As Dr. Phil saids, "you can't fix the problem if you don't admit you have one." Good luck to you.

No ur fine, dnt stop drinkin or else youll find youself using drugs to cope with ur stress

Sounds like you are okay. Me, thats another story...

No mate are you kidding? No you are fine.

there's one thing for certain, you aren't a born-alcoholic like myself who cant stop with just one; this doesn't mean Im addicted, it just means I have an addictive disposition to alcohol. If you can actually stop at 1 measly beer in the morning or just have 3 or 4 drinks there is no way your an alcoholic. However, thats not to say you wont become one later in life if you increase your intake due to tolerance, and if you're addicted, chances are, by that point you'll be drinking every day

I would say know it sounds like you enjoy a drink after work and so be it most people do. Alcoholics tend to never stop drinking and usually do not work because they are dependent on alcohol to make it through the day. In your case definitely not I would however watch your cunsumption drinking is good in moderation 3-4 times a week is a little much maybe once or twice would be sufficient. No morning beers that is just gross and could be becoming habit forming over time.

If you think your drinking to much then your the only person that can make the decision to cut down on the drinking.

no, i reach for a Bud first thing every morning and i'm not an alcoholic

No.

It's common to feel like you need a drink in times of stress or just to help relax. Many people drink a glass of wine or have a beer daily to unwind and relax.

Alcoholics drink to because they need it and being sober isn't an option. Alcoholics try to cut down and fail. Alcoholics deny that they have a problem. Their problem is far worse. They drink when their hungover cause they feel like they need it. They hide empty bottles. They can't just have 3 drinks. They make excuses to get drunk. They feel like themselves when they are drunk.

The beer in the morning raises a red flag for me. I think that is something you need to be concerned about in particular.
The frequency and amount of the others don't seem that bad.

However, it is something that you have to assess for yourself. You know yourself and your life better than anyone else. Check with your close friends or family that know you well and see their opinion. Just bring it up inadvertently to find out their opinion in a light hearted conversation and think about what they say.

Most importantly - be safe - don't drink and drive - have a designated driver if you out at a social function.
