Do you think the drinking age should be lowered?!

Question: Why is the drinking age 21 when 18 year olds can do everything but drink, such as buy tobacco,go to war,and drive......in my opinion i think it should be lowered to18 because that is the age of maturity....and if teens are responsible enough to go to war then they should be able to drink....if you have heard anything please let me know about it......

yea u can make your own mind up when your 18 so yea i think it should be lowered to 18 if we can go to war and get cigs and things like that then it should be that we should be able to make that choice to buy it at 18

21 is good enough

yes

I am opposite. going to war and smoking should 21. Think the USA government needs to quit sending little boys and girls to war.

Ha :D
in Europe we have been drinking since probably 14~15, while legal age of beer drinking in Germany is 16 and in my country Lithuania it is legal to drink everything from 18 (vodka, meed, wine, whatever you like).

I actually think that the "age of drinking" should be made 18

Should be 19; Out of school, at least. The reason we have so many incidents is that it is not legally consumable at an age where people are developing their sense of responsibility.

Also, 19 year olds aren't little boys and girls. They're adults who are capable of and responsible for making their own decisions.

If you look at the numbers, alcohol and alcohol related deaths are greater than we have lost in the war as far as teens go. I have a seventeen year old son. I know his friends drink and it has taken everything I can do as a parent to keep him safe. So far, he has made it. Since the two things that are the most dangerous for him are alcohol and women and I can't stop the ladies, I think any consequences that can be imposed on his drinking should be there. If you are 18 wait your time and remember that what you do under the influence can have some severe consequences including DEATH.

NEVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I just have a humble opinion I think there is no drinking age u know why cuz everyone should stop this habit a lot of drunked people do a lot of staff and when they are not drunk they regret what they do

There is a serious problem amongst teen drinkers at a young age and it has escalated and therefore, no law will be revised to lower the drinking age. That would be a move that is futile.

I can see your logic. However, it's these same teens that get themselves killed in drunk driving accidents.

Enough said.

I know this is an argument that I'll never win, but here goes.

Researchers have proven that the brain is not fully developed until you are in your early 20's, and when going through hormonal changes, your brain is also affected. I grew up during the period when 18 year olds were allowed to drink, and I didn't make good decisions during that time. I look at my boys, who are not 21, but who drink while at college away from Mom and Dad, and they haven't made some good decisions while drinking.

Did you know that for people who drink on a regular basis that their mental/emotional level stops developing at the age when they began drinking? You couldn't have convinced me of this when I was a teen, but I've seen it happen with family members.

I realize that some people will say that they are responsible at 18 and should be allowed to drink, but why put temptation there for those who aren't, and from what I've seen, most of them aren't ready for this when trying to cope with all the other responsibilities they face. For many, alcohol will be their way of coping, which could lead to addiction. I saw a lot of this when I was in college.

I know this isn't what you wnat to hear...sorry!

no maybe raise it

People are still not responsible at 21, but that is the law. Maybe we should vote to change the tabacco & military age to 21??

Yes in fact there are three states considering right now. Vermont being the most resent.

The raising of the drinking age to 21 has done nothing. Many proponents of it will point to fewer deaths in alcohol related crashes, but if you look at the statistics the death rate has been on downward trend since the late 70's and not 1984 when the bill was past. Others will point out that there are fewer underage drinkers out there when in fact there are more. Really the only thing that the NMDAA of 84 did was encourage individuals to hide their drinking from adult. When you hide it you increase the risk. If an 18 year old gets to drunk to drive themselves home who are they going to call for a ride? Mom and Dad? The police? They get in trouble so they either rely on a friend or they attempt to drive themselves. What about alcohol poisoning? There isn't a weekend that goes by that there isn't someone on Y!A asking what they should do they think there friend has alcohol poisoning. Why are they on Answer? Because they sure as hell can't go to the hospital like they need to since they don't want to get in trouble.

Be open, honest, reasonable and responsible about drinking helps to reduce incidents of alcoholism later in life along with reduced risk of injure and death.

At 18 you can serve in the military, get marries, vote and own a handgun. What do all of these have in common? You need a license and/or training. I support lowering the drinking age to 18 and introducing a licensing system. At 18 you would go through alcohol training and be given fair and balance information. Not the biased BS that is forced down your throat by MADD, SADD, AA and mass media. But factual information from both sides so that you can make an informed decision. After receiving this information if you choose to do something stupid like drink and drive you would not only loose you drivers license for X amount of time, but you would also loose your drinking permit for the same. Heck, make it part of driver training so that the education begins at 16 and you have two years to make a choice.

Check of the site below for an informed and balance argument if mine hasn't helped. Heck, check it out anyway.

Back in the mid to late '70s, the drinking age in most New England states was 18. The states were coerced by the Federal government to raising it back to 21.
