Cachaca drink?!
Answers: Has anyone heard of a Brazilian drink called Cachaca? My aunt came back from holiday there and brought a little bottle of it back. How potent is it (I hope it's very) and what mixes nicely with it?
It's very potent and VERY GOOD.
You can make Caipirinhas which is one of my top 10 all time favorite drinks.
Take:
1. 1.5 oz of cachaca
2. 1/2 lime
3. 2 teaspoons of sugar
Place lime and sugar into old fashioned glass and muddle (mash the two ingredients together using a muddler or a wooden spoon). Fill the glass with crushed ice and add the Cacha?a.
Awesome!
isn't that the drink from two girls one cup?
Cacha?a is the most popular distilled alcoholic beverage in Brazil. Cacha?a is denomination of origin, in other regions of Brazil it is known as "aguardente", "pinga" or other names. Cacha?a is only produced in Brazil, where 396 million gallons are consumed annually (roughly eight litres per head), compared with 3.96 million outside the country.[1] Cacha?a is, "...the product of the distillation of fermented sugarcane juice, with its alcohol strength between 38% and 48% by volume. Up to six grams per liter of sugar may be added."[2]
Cacha?a is often said to differ from rum in that it is made from sugarcane juice while rum is made from either molasses or sugarcane juice then aged in oak barrels.
1.3 billion liters of Cacha?a are produced each year. Only 1% of this production is exported (mainly to Germany).[3]. Outside Brazil, cacha?a is used almost exclusively as an ingredient in tropical drinks, with the caipirinha being the most famous cocktail.
It's 42%... so a little over 80 proof.
