Is it a good idea to go out drinking a few times a week if alcoholism runs in your family?!

Question: Not like keeping alcohol in your house and drinking all the time. But more like going out and having a few drinks with friends on a friday or saturday night, once a week.

just make sure to keep this same open mind about this problem if people confront you about it being a problem.

Also make sure you can go w/o the alcohol. Just don't be an alcoholic! sounds easy right...

as long as it doesnt get to the have a drink when you come home from work stage. then id be worried.

otherwise, ::cheers::

As long as you moderate how much and how often you drink. When alcoholism runs in the family, it's easier also become alcoholic. Everyone is an individual, and it all depends on you.

Sounds like you may already have a problem, like denial. Your question starts 'a few times a week' then goes to once a week. So which one is it? Thursday, Friday Saturday and maybe a night in between?

Or is just once, and you don't drink too much and you have a sober driver to take you home?

Ok, sorry, but remember that when you go 'clubbing', which can be fun, you can always order a non alcoholic drink which looks like the real thing.

I don't think so..

girl my grandfather was alcoholic I know how you feel but drink like 1 time a week that don't make you alcoholic

Don't drink too much!!!

Personal control is the key, not the fact that alcoholism runs in the family. One knows when they drink too much, you just dont do it.... only if you dont want to. And if you have good friends, they will stop you drinking to much and to often.

Of course having a family history of alcoholism increases your chances of being alcoholic, once/if you start drinking.

Your best bet would be to not keep alcohol in your place. Go out and have fun once a week, that's not a big deal. But, you might want to have a friend (perhaps a designated driver) keep an eye out for how much you've drank and tell them to stop you at X number of drinks.

BTW, bars are expensive so you really wouldn't want to get smashed in a bar anyway.

its fine. alcoholism runs in my family too. i drink alot on the weekends, but im fine. alcoholism is a state of mind. if you believe you won't become an alcoholic, and are a strong minded person, everything will be fine.
