What kind of beer?!

Question: I am not a beer person. I don't know anything about it, but will be having a barbecue this year (smoked meats like pork, beef, and/chicken - not grilled hamburgers or hot dogs) and would like to know what kind of beer(s) to serve with. I imagine we will have a few kinds of BBQ sauces, if that matters. Last year, you smart cookies steered me in the right direction with what type of beer to pair with a creamy pasta dish, and I am hoping you can do me the same favor this year. Thank you for your help!

A micro brew Amber or Brown Ale; has rich nutty flavor which goes well with sauces and spices:

Newcastle (Brown Ale)
Red Tail (Mendocino Brewing Co. Amber Ale)
Abita Amber
Arrogant Bastard (Stone Brewing Co.)

You might want to have a pale ale on hand in case people aren't accustomed to the amber or brown ales:

Full Sail IPA or Pale Ale(Full Sail Brewing Co.)

Out of the list, I enjoy Full Sail, Arrogant Bastard and Red Tail the most. For parties, I find most people gravitate towards Full Sail and Red Tail.

Depends on the type of company you are having over, for an upper class affair, I would suggest Mickeys, for average Joes, Bud Ice in a bottle.

alot of my friends drink bud light or miller. ask some of the people that are coming what they like to drink and see what they say.

Blue Moon with sliced oranges.

Can I come??

If you are planning a BBQ in the summer you would more than likely want to go with something light. It also depends on the company that you are going to have. If they appreciate a good beer you will want to go with a summer ale or maybe even a Belgian Blond ale both are light and not to bitter for most people and low enough in alcohol content to be a good session beer. If they are more regular folk then they would probably enjoy some MGD, or bud light.

Go for a good hefeweisen, served with lemon wedges.

Kokanee and John Labbat's Blue

I had a grill party for my birthday this past autumn and served Mickeys (grenades - the bottle is half the fun), Harp (from the makers of Guinness, all the flavor but not as thick), Miller High Life, and the party favorite - Honey Bears (equal parts Leinenkugels Honey Weis & Berry Weis).

a collection of imported bottled beers is always a topic of conversation....try a 6-pack of several and let the crowd choose.
