What is in Chocolate that is addicting?!

Question:

What is in Chocolate that is addicting?

Is it just a "sugar" craze or am I a Chocalate "junky". Seems that every AfternoonI crave a candy bar or a piece of choclate. Some thing sweet. But I Love chocolate.

Answers:
"Substances found in chocolate, such as phenylethylamine, theobromine, anandamide and tryptophan trigger mood enhancing chemicals and neurotransmitters to be released in the brain. Phenylethylamine is a chemical found in the body that is similar to amphetamine. It helps mediate feelings of giddiness, attraction, euphoria and excitement." And it tastes yummy, too :)

Caffeine

Have your sugar level checked by a doctor.

it is a mysterious substance that has never been identified.

Its the chocolate

your body craves chocoa yum!

Not sure, maybe you're not getting enough sugar

nicotine, same thing thats in cigarettes

It actually has a substance that makes you feel better, it gives a good mood, and makes you happy, :)

Assuming you are actually eating chocolate...

There are several ingredients in chocolate and candy bars that are addictive...

Caffeine, chocolate, sugar. It could be either one or it could be a combination of all three.

The chocolate has an ingredient that causes a euphoria like that experienced when you fall in love... maybe that's it?

chocolate has caffeine.

I think its the mix of caffeine and sugar

Its the coco in chocolate some say it is a safe form of cocaine

Probably the sugar and the fat combination. It produces chemical reactions in the brain that produce endorphins, or the "feel good" hormones, hence forth, we gotta have it!

same thing women have: yummy sweetness

"Chocolate intake has been linked with release of serotonin in the brain, which is thought to produce feelings of pleasure..[10] "

whats so addicting about chocolate is that most Candy's dont have milk in sugar so when they are blind edit makes a new subtanes that create the addiction of chocolate

It is most likely the sugar, there isn't a whole lot of caffeine in chocolate.

Who doesn't like sugar!

Caffeine

Caffeine. As an aside, chocolate is delicious paired with beer.

Chocolate has a chemical in it that is similar to caffeine, but it is NOT caffeine as many people seem to think. (I forgot what it's called). Anyway, it's only mildly addictive like caffeine, and craving sweets in general is kind of normal. I don't like other sweet things, never have, so when I want something sweet, I go for chocolate. (I choked on a piece of candy when I was a kid, so I think that's why I don't like candy and other sweet things). Plus, chocolate is just so yummy. It's a food group and it belongs at the top of the food pyramid. It's necessary to consume chocolate on a regular basis, doesn't everyone know that? Okay, maybe not, but it should be.

It’s most likely because your body is wanting food…also your blood sugar. In the afternoon your blood sugar levels will drop a little. This is why it is best to eat 6 SMALL meals than 3 large ones. You know the Dr. Pepper clock that has 10 2 and 4 only on the hands? This was an advertising ploy, doctors found that blood sugar levels dropped around those times (if you ate at say 7, 12, and 6 or so) so DP advertised as grab a bite to drink at 10, 2, and 4.

The caffeine levels in chocolate are very negligible and not worth mentioning.

Any way when I get a sugar craving it is because I am hungry and need real food. I typically experience this about 2-3 hours after eating. Studies link high sugar intake to heart disease, obesity, and many man other things. Reduce your sugars PLEASE!

You may not think that little candy bar is that bad but...it is. Don't cut sugars out completely...but don't give in. It's actually a misread of your bodies signals...I doubt that one candy bar actually satisfies.

Try eating 6 SMALL meals throughout the day...this will help regulate your metabolism and curb those cravings.

Sugar!

No seriously...its the cacao. And the endorphins that rush to your brain.

It's the sugar.
