Ever bought wine in a 99 cent store or Big Lots?!

Question:

Ever bought wine in a 99 cent store or Big Lots?

in some states it is legal and done; most of the wine i bought at those places were mediocre at best; one syrah from chile that i got at the 99 cent store was among the best i ever drank!

Answers:
It has been my impression that it is only California where this is common, because wineries can get rid of surplusses under different labels without hassles of other states' alcohol pricing and distribution laws. My bf used to stock up when he often had to do work stints in California, buying such items more at Grocery Outlet stores than other retailers. Many, many of the wines were very good - certainly considerably better than 2 Buck Chuck (save for the 2BC sauvignon blanc, which is better than the others) and often worth $ 15-20.

eww...no.

In wine you get what you pay for. The higher the price the better the grapes, the better the process of refinement and the longer it is aged.
Wines that you get for under $3.00 a bottle do not have a good taste, more metallic or sour or bitter. Harder to swallow and can give you a nasty headache from the fermenting process being too short.
Once in a while in store like this you can get a good bottle of great wine but they are few and far between. The reason is that some countries ship their wine here in large amounts and the overstock must be run out as storage is always a problem.
The wine industry has taken a turn for the worst. You have to be very careful anymore what wine you buy as they are trying to process it so fast it is not the best product.

Two buck Chuck (Charlie Shaw) is selling their wine so cheap ($2) that they are hurting the big guys. They can not compete and many are going out of business. Charlie Shaw has so much abundace of grapes that they just push it out through store and outlets that can sell it cheap by the case.
This is not good wine and to me I would rather dring koolaid than that wine. But many people buy it because they drink so much and they can keep their costs down for alcohol.
I think it far better to drink GOOD quality wine and drink it less often.

It is amazing what one can find in the most unexpected places. On the other hand I wouldn't dare to buy either food or alcohol in those places, cause it is usually a "you get what you pay for" kind of situation.

Yes, and it sucked, both times. Never again.

I can't imagine it would be very good...
