Actually, it will impair your performance a bit. Studies have shown that high sugar doses taken for energy prior to a track and field events have actually slowed the athletes by a fraction of a second to an entire second or more. It gives you extra energy, but energy is used to burn it. I am not sure of the mechanism, but I believe it.

None of those energy drinks are good for you, and while it may enhance your performance in the short term, it's not doing you any favors in the long term.

Hydration will help with sports performance - hence the water. The Red Bull is caffeine and sugar with amino acids and B vitamins for what they claim is better than just a boost. I'd do mostly water. Don't drink any more Red Bull than you would other caffeine in a regular day (about 80mg caffeine per 8 oz for red bull and 55mg for a 12oz coke)

Consuming high levels of caffeine, found in drinks, such as "Red Bull," and being active are very dangerous for your heart. There have been very young people, including sports professionals, who have had cardiac arrests (heart attacks), because of tachycardia (rapid heart rate). When we NATURALLY do activities, such as exercise and sports, our hearts adjust their rythms to our activity. Whereas, caffeine, makes are hearts beat regardless of being sedentary or active. When we run, or do other rigorous activities with the consumption of these drinks, or diet pills containing high levels of caffeine, we put ourselves at a high risk of having a massive heart-attack or other type of cario-vascular failure...PLEASE DON'T CONSUME HIGHLY CAFFEINATED PRODUCTS AND EXERCISE...IT IS BETTER TO STAY AWAY FROM THEM...active or not.
