What are some of my options when I order a "rail/well" drink??!

Question:

What are some of my options when I order a "rail/well" drink??

I never know what constitutes as a rail mixer! I know that you can't specify the exact type of liquor that you want... so, what are some good drinks to order then?! Ex: Is there a rail mixer for Captain and Coke?!

Its a well drink...anything is mixed...bahama mama, tequila sunrise, margarita, daquiri drinking like that. You can have rum and coke...my favorite..but it will be the cheap stuff..(no name brand)..

Well drinks are made with cheaper, lower quality products. "House" vodka won't taste as good as Grey Goose or Belvedere. Same for all other drinks. You will get house alcohol in a mixed drink unless you specify otherwise. Pay the extra few dollars for a better tasting drink.

A well drink is made with the cheap liquor kept below eye level. They are generic and although they are cheaper they are not to the level of "call" drinks.

A Captain and Coke consists of Captain Morgan's rum and is a call drink.

In other words, if you have to ask for it by name it is a "call" drink and not a "well" drink.

A call drink is a drink made with a specified liquor. You call for a liquor to be used in your drink.

A Captain and Coke is a "Call drink" because you are asking for a specific brand.

If you don't specific the type of rum, the bartender will give you the cheapest rum that he/she has and that will be a "Well drink." If you decide not to have the cheapest rum and you order Bacardi or Captain Morgan, then it is a "Call Drink"

a well drink is the house brand that is reasonably priced, anything else is premium liquor. when ordering ask what brand of rum they are using or whatever and then decide to switch it up. i am a regular at a bar and when i come in they give me premium alcohol for regular price.

A rail or well drink is the bottom of the barrel when it comes to liqueur. When it comes to vodka for instance your well brand may be McCormick's, but no one has ever heard of them, so they would prefer Stoli or Kettle One or Grey Goose. When ordering a drink, if you don't specify that you want a Kettle One martini, you will get a martini made with the cheapest stuff in the house. Some places don't even carry Kahlua, they serve coffee brandy, so even in a mudslide, you get well liqueur. Good for you if your wanting to drink a bunch and save the wallet, bad if you would like a premium tasting drink.
