How do Wetherspoons afford to price their beer so low?!

Question:

How do Wetherspoons afford to price their beer so low?

Beer in Wetherpoons is arguably the cheapest of any UK pub brand, but how do they afford this? I have heard many rumours such as they buy their beer days before its expiry date - is this true? Or do they just buy in bulk with the aim to shift enough if they price it as low as possible?

Answers:
there are lots of people with JOBs (just over broke) like me who will buy the cheap stuff first. They know poorer people make up the majority! Smart.

maybe because its cheap and nasty and made of budget ingredients?
