It isn't just Port, everything is slowly creeping up in price. Even the Sherry which is a fortified wine has increased over the last few months.

how fast you drinking it ?

I don't know why Port is so expensive, but have you noticed how the price of meths has gone through the roof as well.

Ditto whisky.

The politicians will tell you it's to reduce binge drinking, but it's just another excuse to rip off joe public.

Also note, if you live in UK, tax on booze increased from next Sunday, announced in the Budget.

It is the same over here in Colonies (Canada), as for any beverage made with wheat, corn or other grain, commoditys have gone up and the distillerys are passing it on the consumer, as for port, they have had a few bad harvests in Porto in Portugal, plus the EU equalization treatys are to blame to, I saw it here on BBC World, they said it has to do with dumping cheap products within the EU.

Here for years Tequila was dirt cheap, under $20 a bottle Canadian, now it is over $30 it double in price in less than one year, and in the US scotch has gone up quite alot, it is the US $ versus the Euro and the price of the grains to make it, the Yanks are taking a hit now with there beers, bread and other grain based foods because of the bio-fuel taking them to make ethanol. The Mexicans are have a hard time making torillas because the American are diverting so much corn to fuel now.
