Wow, what a load of crap answers.

Making beer can be simple or it can be quite involved. It depends on how you do it. The simple approach is to buy hopped malt extract. It comes in powder and syrup form. Either will do, if you use the syrup then you don't even have to measure. Basically you just add the malt extract to a big pot of water and let it boil for a while. Then add that to a big container of water (5 gallon glass carboy is most common). Toss in some yeast when it's cooled down a bit, put a fermentation lock or a blow off tube on top then wait a week or so until the fermentation had stopped. Now it's time to bottle. Mix a little dry malt extract(can be sugar). About 1/4 cup should do it. Then into the bottles it goes. cap them off and wait some more, a week minimum. Should be good by two weeks better by three or four.
That's the simplest way. The extreme other end is to start with malted barely grind it and do a full mash. That's a lot of work and takes more equipment. But the beer is usually better and you have full control.
Do some research, buy a book, Papazian's Complete Joy of Homebrewing is the beginer's bible. Quite good and will keep you going for a long time.
Try homebrewing. It's like cooking but with an even better result.
Oh, here's a site that has some links to supply shops:
http://www.beertown.org/homebrewing/inde...

Basic equipment is a big pot maybe 2 gallon size(crab pot style works). A long handle spoon to stir the malt extract in that pot. A big funnel. A 5 gallon container (glass is better than plastic, no off flavors and cleans better). Bottles and a way to cap them (many options here, I like 1 liter swing tops or swing top Grolsh bottles, then capping is easy). And a bit of tubing to get the beer from the 5 gallon container to the bottles. Of course there isn't really a fixed size, but five gallons is common and many recipies are for this size batch. You can do whatever size you want within practical contraints.
Minimal ingredients are 2 3.3lb cans of hopped malt extract (many varieties to chose from), brewer's yeast don't use bread yeast, sugar for priming before bottling (the malt extract is much better) and water.
Good luck.

I used to make beer. There are specialty shops in most larger towns. It's not that expensive, and it's fun. You can probably find the equipment on eBay. I'd suggest buying a book. There are a bunch of them. Try eBay or Amazon for the book.

Wow you really did get some bad answers. Don't listen to the negatives; brewing your own beer can be fun, enjoyable, and won't break the bank. Some inexpensive equipment can get you started and the ingredients will cost less than the resulting beer would cost.

Pick up "The New Complete Joy of Home Brewing" by Charlie Papazian. It's the bible of home brewers and written in an easy to read and funny manner.

Buy a home brewer starter kit ($45-75 US). Depending on where you are located, a local homebrew supply shop or eBay will have these. Look for a kit with two 5-gallon buckets (one with a spigot near the base) along with all the connecting hoses. Avoid the gimmicky "Mr. Beer" type of kits, these are crap.

The home brew shops (local or online) will also have ingredient kits with everything you will need for a 5 gallon batch. These are an easy and affordable way to get started. Save the more expensive equipment and creating your own recipes until you have a couple of batches under your belt.

One last thing, pick up some good beer to enjoy while you are brewing! Good luck, it's a blast.

you can buy a home brewing kit online try easons.com or easons.ie

There are several ways: all grain, partal grain/surup, or just surup. can be done on your stove (gas is better), contact www. pico-brewing.com
or frogibc1@aol.com. These are 2 of my hm town brew shops.

take a road trip to the nearest brewery, take the tour, and talk to someone who actually does the brewing . Oh and take advantage of the free beers!!!
