How do you store homemade wine and how long will it last?!

Question:

How do you store homemade wine and how long will it last?

I'm talking about the super cheap wine. The kind you make with grape juice, water jugs, and balloons. Do I just cap it when the balloon deflates and keep it in a cool dark place or should I refrigerate it?

How long can I expect it to last if I've properly sanitized everything?

Clearly, it's made to be cheap. Buying a kit defeats the purpose of that.

I'm just wondering if it will last for a decent amount of time if I just pt the original water bottle cap back on it when it's done fermenting

Wow... I haven't heard of that message. Well you really should cork it or create a tight seal. Then store it in a cool place.
You can refrigerate it but red wine shouldn't really be refrigerated. It tastes best when served at room temperature.
You know, it's probably a lot easier to buy the wine kits or go to a winery to brew it.

I you cork them in used wine bottles and store them in your fridge they can last up to 6 months.. I wouldnt really push it past that. If it was made using real fruit and glass instead of plastic with a breather(lets air out but not back in) at the top then i would give you at least a year.

if it's a white then it's about as ready as it will get to drink. it will keep in a dark cool place for several months, but why?

if it's a red then it will be OK in a month or so, and better in three months, maybe a little better in six-12 months. beyond that who knows, especially if in plastic and a plain lid, I wouldn't be too confident beyond the three month mark. You will find some wine companies are putting wine in aluminum bottles now, and in plastic that looks like a milk carton. I am sure it is a special plastic.
