Boxed Wine?!
Answers: After opening, how long can I keep boxed wine before it goes bad?
Interesting fact to the critics: over half the wine consumed in France come in tetrapacks (boxes).
There's nothing inherently bad about box or bag-in-a-box wine, it's just that many producers have chosen to put schlock in it. There is a modern movement in the US to claim bag-in-box wines for more fine wine makers.
Wines in bag-in-box packaging can easily last 14 days once opened. I have actually conducted a few trials with a box of finer boxed wines and it took me until day 18 to start noting a slight decay. The wine continued to be perfectly drinkable well past 18 days, though.
You say that like it was any good in the first place.
Maybe a week if you keep it in the refrigerator.
I keep it in the fridge forever. I use it to cook with.
Boxed wine is sewage. Just through it away and don't waste your money anymore!
I wouldn't worry about it. If it came in a box it's already as bad as it can get.
Four weeks. Boxed wines are vacuum sealed with a plastic bag to keep air out and preventing the oxidation that normally spoils bottled wine.
I like to keep boxed wines on hand. If I know I won't be drinking it within 2 to 3 days of opening it, a boxed wine is the best choice.
I've kept mine for up to 6 months, but at that point, I generally use it for cooking. I don't think it's really drinkable at that point. I could be wrong.
A boxed wine is also great for a party. More people can enjoy the wine, compared to a bottle. (I should know... my sister opened my favorite wine at a party at my house... and I didn't get any of it!)
