What is the difference between a shot and a jigger of alcohol?!

Question:

What is the difference between a shot and a jigger of alcohol?

Answers:
If you mean quantity, I know that a jigger is exactly 1.5 ounces. I think a shot (in measurement terms) is more vague; probably around 2 ounces.

Unless you're at my house. Then a shot is a half-full highball glass.

:)

Shot = the liquor itself.
Jigger = the little metal measuring cup.

A shot is open to interpretation.
A jigger is a specific amount, 1.5 ounces.

Steven's answer is correct as well.

Fairly sure they are the same thing.

A jigger is used to mix the alcohol. Some shots require so many different alcohols and or juices that you have to put it in a jigger!

Also called a shot, a jigger is a small drinking glass

The jigger is the tool used to measure a shot. Depending on what bar you go to depends on how many ounces they use for a shot. this can range anywhere from 1oz. up to 2 oz. although the standard for most bars is an 1 1/2 oz. Jiggers can be bought in verying sizes many times you will have a jigger with 1 1/2 oz on one end with 3/4 oz on the other. this is for making drinks such as a margarita where you put in 1 1/2 oz tequila and 3/4 oz triple sec. You will see jiggers used in night clubs and small hole in the wall bars.. The idea behind them (besides measuring devices) is to show the owner and the customer that they are getting what they paid for no more no less. In Better bars free pourers are used. These are faster and more efficient.. you just have to be a better bartender to know your count.
