Wine. Box, screw cap, or cork?!

Question:

Wine. Box, screw cap, or cork?

I've been enjoying wine for 5 years now. I used to buy different bottles all the time to try different things.
Recently I've converted to box wine because it's a better value and better storage for the life of the wine. What's your take on box wine, versus bottles with a screw cap or cork?

Answers:
Wine out of a box is super classy. Keep it up.

Cork, all the way.
Without the glass bottle, I don't trust it.

i think their all fine... who cares what the top looks like, unless you're drinking it.

I Think Corked Tastes The Best As For Boxed Wine Kinda Trashy And Cheap....

You'd be surprised but id say screw cap, a) you know its fresh and b) you can't mess it up

Boxed wine is like imitation crab. Awful!

I guess I'm just a little old fashioned when it comes to my wine--I like the cork almost exclusively. Boxed wine reminds me of those terrible, cheap wine binges in college (I think the brand was Franzia or something). I've read however, that the screw cap and the cork are completely equal--one isn't better than the other in preserving taste or anything. I know that the boxed wine comes with a liter or so of wine and for that reason I imagine its a good deal and easier to store. I guess I don't buy wine in bulk so I'll stick with my 750mL bottles w/ cork.

i know a lot of wine connoisseurs who drink boxed wine. while they prefer more expensive bottled wine with a cork, boxed wine can be decent and has come a long way. drink what ever you like and are comfortable with. just don't take a box of wine to a friend's house for dinner. :)

The best is... don't be a "wine snob"(not calling you one, but possibly others), and just drink what you like... Forget the old rules of "this goes with this... that goes with that" If it tastes like $h!#, it doesn't matter what kind of container it comes in, cause it will still taste like $h!# either way... no matter what foods you are drinking it with. (Just because a wine cost $6 a bottle, and another costs $35 a bottle, doesn't always mean the $35 bottle is going to taste better).

However, you are right about the storage life of the wine that comes in a box (a thick bag with a spout in a box actually)... if you aren't going to finish the entire "bottle" of wine in one night, it's best to purchase it this way... you want the wine to "breathe" to bring out the flavors, but only by the glass, not the entire bottle... it will break down the flavors if left exposed too long. Since boxed (bagged) wine doesn't let air come into the wine until it is dispensed this is the best bet.

Don't really have that problem here though... a normal sized (750 mL) bottle only pours a few glasses in the huge wine glasses we have.... to hell with the rules ~ eat, drink & be merry!!!

I like the box. I usually take a week to consume a 1 L box of wine and it maintains its good taste.
I've thrown out many bottles of wine after 3 days.

box wine is good if you plan to cook with it. i wouldn't drink it though. box wine is like water in Mexico.

I don't see how it's a better value in the quality of wine you have, but more you think you're getting more volume for what you pay for. Quality wise, you're better off with those wines with corks to keep it fresh. Boxed wines have a shorter shelf life anyways.
