Why do some beer distributors in the states check your ID AND make you fill out a file card as well?!

Question: i went to a beer distributor the other day, one id never been to, and the man working not only took my id but made me fill out a card with my name, address, weight, of all things, just to name a few "for their "file". Ive been to other distributors in the past and never had to go through that process. Does anyone know what they do with such files or for what purposes they keep them? or is it just to catch people on probation/ parole in the act?

They usually make you fill out a card if they are suspicious that your ID is a fake. It is really for their own protection because now people can sue if they get into an accident or are hit by a drunk driver.

could be a "membership" as they all it so you are on file and you won't have to do that again. Most places here in Dallas do that too.
