Is Hemp Beer gluten free?!

Question: Can someone with a gluten allergy drink Hemp Beer? Does it contain wheat, barley or any other gluten?

Answers: Can someone with a gluten allergy drink Hemp Beer? Does it contain wheat, barley or any other gluten?

For the sake of the health of whomever the Celiac is, please do not take the advice of the first poster.
Gluten is primarily found in wheat; but it is also present in barley, rye and oats in small amounts.
In the case of hemp beer, the hemp is added in addition to, or in place of, the hops. Hops are the bittering and preservative agent in beer. Hops are a closely-related cousin of hemp, as well as nettles.
Hemp beers are still made with malted grains (barley being the most common, obviously) so therefore they DO contain Gluten... unless it specifically says "Gluten-Free Beer with Hemp"
The only beers that are gluten-free will say "gluten-free," such as beer made from Sorghum (with rice sometimes added).
These are beers like New Grist, Redbridge, etc.
Also, Cider is gluten-free. Woodchuck, Strongbow, Woodpecker, Hardcore, etc.

Good luck...
Slainte' (Cheers)

Hemp beer is made by adding the toasted and ground hemp seed to a the barley and hops, water and yeast to make the wort or beer mash, it is gluten free, wheat is the only grain to have gluten.

There is no gluten is barley, it is has complex sugars to aid in the brewing process, I have had several hemp beers, in Canada we have alot of hemp products, not illegal here, even have used hemp oil for cooking. Big Rock from Calgary AB is my fav, has a bit of funky slightly bitter flavour, more like a German beer with the extra malt in it, not unpeasant, but your first sip, is a learning experience, after that you are hooked, and there is not THC in ours, the Hemp/Marajuana plant it is from is the non-narcotic type, it grows around were I live.

Hi, I'm not sure about this one but here's a book that might tell you all ya need to know about gluten free beers and wines! ? .....Clan Thompson 2008 Celiac Pocket Guide to Gluten-Free Beers, Wine & Spirits (Gluten-Free Alcoholic Beverages)

If the beer contains barley it is NOT gluten free, contrary to the first posters response. Technically there is also such a thing as corn gluten, so gluten is not just in wheat, rye and barley, BUT ppl with Celiac Disease or a gluten allergy are to avoid all types of gluten that may come from wheat, rye, barley and even oats (due to cross contamination)
Id stick to GF beer such as Redbridge.
