Hello there!!

Good question. I use to teach bartending at NBS (National Bartending School) in California, and later on became a Beverage Manager at 4 star hotel. I've been in this field for quite a while now and I can answer your question very easily.

First of all, the only place that actually need a bartending license is New York, all other states does not require a bartending license. In California, you can be a bartend without a license or a certificate, it is not necessary. I would recommend you getting TIPS (To Insure Proper Service) certified if anything. Most establishment require you to have that instead.

Bottomline a bartending license is really worthless. Its basically bartending school trying to make money from you. You can become a bartender by working as a server or a barback and slowly move up as a bartender.

Hope this helps you.

there is no bar tending license

Not all states require one. Also, it sometimes depends on the towns and counties. Where I live some towns require only a TIPS certification and in other towns they require a BASSET. I have also seen different restaurants and bars require different things. If you think you know where you will be moving to in the future check around with that area.
