Answers: Apparently he did, I didn't know that! It was a guy called Tony Tribe who did the original reggae version, which UB40 murdered.

he certainly did, but UB40 made it popular

Yes. What a great song it is as well. I think the UB40 version is the best though.

He did. He wrote and recorded most of his songs.

Edit: Not that I think ANYONE sang it better than Diamond, but pull up and play Bob Marley's version of Red, Red Wine.

Red Red wine was written and first recorded by Neil Diamond. His original version first appeared on his 1967 album Just For You The lyrics sing the praises of wine, and its ability to make you forget your problems.
Diamond wrote another song about red wine in 1970 with Cracklin' Rosie

and yes UB-40 brought the song back to life in 1984

You were obviously watching the same television as me last night. Yes, I was surprised as well. Love the UB40 version though.

Yes he did, although UB40 made it a bigger hit.

Yes he did. Brilliant writer & singer. Saw him in the NEC a few years back. Best concert I have ever been to

it was ub40 that sang red red wine not neil diamond.
