What is really Moderation?!


Question: I mean everybody's talking about drinking responsibly, but i wanted to know how much exactly moderate is? (beer, wine, and liquor..)

Moderation varies from nation to nation but I would say roughly 15 standards a week is about right. A standard drink could be a glass of wine, 330ml bottle of beer or a 30ml shot of 80 proof spirit. However, it really comes down to the individual. If your drinking habits impact upon your day to day duties causing you to neglect them then you should re-think your consumption.

In addition if your drinkng causes any health problems then you certainly aren't drinking in moderation. However the 15 drinks a week and no more than 5 at a sitting seems reasonable, though i've almost never adhered to it lol I just drink until i'm feeling very relaxed.

In addition it has been medically proven to have more health benefits than negatives. For example a study showed that ppl who drink in moderation were less likely to develop heart diseases that resulted in premature death than ppl who abstained totally.

To the person who posted below I assume your text book is a U.S. Department of Health approved one and therefore does not accept the concept that people can drink moderately by their own judgment and not just by sticking to some abstract, non scientifically based quota..

moderation is keeping drinking from influencing your normal activities. if you drink despite the consequences, its addiction... and you've permanently ruined your ability to enjoy alcohol.

The textbook answer is less than 14 a week no more than five at a time. That is a "standard serving" of any alcohol. You need to know your booze to know how much yaou are actualy drinking.

I can think of several unhealthy way to stay within that guideline. So basicly if your drinking is negitivly effecting your health or your life you need to change something.

According to my definition. When you begin to feel like you are drinking. Thats when you are at moderation. So at that point stop drinking or you may fall overboard.

moderation, according to my textbook, is two drinks per day for men, one for women
