Why do abstainers have a problem with other people drinking?!
Answers: I'm talking about the smug individuals who stand around at social gatherings sober and judging, while everyone else is drinking and enjoying themselves, as though it somehow puts them on a moral highground.. seriously what is the problem? Do you have trouble grasping the idea that maybe ppl don't just drink and have fun escape from their shitty lives, that, shocking as it sounds, maybe we drink and have fun merely because it's fun...
To Otherwordly Traveller:
You say you do not judge people because they drink, yet you speak of how its bad for you, causes suffering, and makes you feel bad. Also you say you have compassion towards them because "deep down they don't realize what they are doing".
Maybe you only know people with unhealthy drinking habits? When drinking wisely you should never feel suffering, or get sick, or not realize what you are doing.
While you are correct it is not healthy to take alcohol, it is not harmful if you do so wisely. Of course binge drinking is bad for you, but the occasional drink, or even the occasional night of drinking isen't going to kill you. If I were you I would be much more concerned of cancer causing cosmic radiation :p.
In fact the occasional drink has been shown to be good for you (especialy in the case of Red Wine).
To the original poster:
Don't worry about what they think. Chosing to not drink is their choice, and if they do not enjoy it there is no reason for them to feel any preassure into having to partake.
However, if they are not drinking only for some misguided form of superiority, then they are the ones with a problem.
quit ranting and go have your fun, if there's a price to pay, it'll be you who pays it no one else. So if drinking is what you want to do, go fot it and quit worrying about what other people think. Just remember not to blame others when that consequence comes around. :)
Hmm, good question. Personally, I don't drink, and I don't really get why people drink because, though its apparently fun from what I hear, 1) it doesn't make you any healthier to put useless, damaging substances into the body, and 2) it just causes more suffering (sometimes) through ones actions and because it makes you feel like **** afterwards.
I think it's even more fun to feel light, clean, and fresh literally all the time, just from practicing good health.
I don't judge people because they drink, I just feel compassion towards them since deep down they don't realize what they are doing
I think it is because secretly they wish they could let loose and enjoy themselves also. They can't have fun, so they are going to be all "sour grapes" about it.
This brings back a memory... My roomie and I used to rate their "pucker factors" based on how pent up vs. superior they felt..We just had fun laughing at them and enjoying ourselves even more, lol!
if you can't figure what is puckered, then sober up a bit and it will come to you, lol!
p.s. I give the person above me a 4, lol! (unless their life was affected by an alchoholic, then they have a genetic tendency towards addictive behavior, then they are a reasonable pucker-er and they have a real reason to avoid it!) (It's a "darwin" thing for them)
(reminds me of the anti gays that turn out to really be gay themselves!)
