Why is both the cost of beer and food going up?!

Question: I just saw diesel was $4.25 / gal. Beer and food gets transported on diesel, not gas.

Also, specific items, like corn, are going up for a second reason. Someone, in their limited wisdom, thought ethanol was a "green" fuel. Turns out it isn't. As in, not even close.

Basically, the US decided we would distill a large portion of our corn crop and make ethanol out of it. Then, we would blend this into the gasoline at a 10% level, and an 85% level for "Flex-Fuel" vehicles. The idea was that ethanol releases fewer greenhouse gases when burned. Unfortunately, it also lowers your mileage, so it actually releases more greenhouse gases, per mile driven. Also, since we use up our corn crop in the process, this means everyone who uses corn (budweiser, cattle farmers, standard people, etc) pays more for that crop. That drives up the price of everything! And guess what? Now we have too many ethanol plants, so to get the profit these companies demand out of their "investment" we have to truly deplete our corn crops. This makes the competition for food unbelievable. It's truly shocking how misguided our politicans are.

Also, hops are going up in price due to a hop shortage in California. Granted, this won't affect Budweiser as much as corn....

Recession.

Because gas is going up.
It costs more to get it from the factory to your local Wal Mart.

Buy local when you can :]

The price of hops to make beer is up right now plus transportation/gas to ship the stuff is expensive.

My beer is getting cheaper. Beck's, Sam Adams, Yuengling, Bud, PBR, Miller.... I dont know whats next..... Bud ICe I guess
