How can people drink straight up liquor and?

me and some friends were all taking shots and such when one of them pulls out some whiskey pours it into a glass and starts drinking it like it was soda. well i was just wondering if u had to constantly put yourself in pain to get used to it?

Answers:
well, I personally HATE doing shots and much prefer to sip my drink. The reason is that I want to taste it. The reason for that is that to me it tastes good and I'm enjoying it. If I didn't enjoy it, I wouldn't drink it. I certainly don't want to drink it fast just to get it over with, because I could just as easily buy something I enjoy that I didn't have to drink fast just to get it over with. By analogy, you don't eat a hamburger fast because it tastes bad, you go buy a hamburger that tastes good so you don't have to eat it fast just to eat it.

It's completely an acquired taste. Nowadays I drink mostly irish whiskey, blended scotches, anejo tequilas and the occassional beer. That's not stuff you just want to down like you're an 18 year old frat kid that's never drank anything before. Nor is it something you're just going to drink like a soda cuz then you don't taste anything.

As for all the alarmist moralizers spouting conventional unthinking wisdom: ignore them. in moderation alcohol won't kill you, get hammerred every day and it might do some damage but if you enjoy it in moderation it isn't the end of the world.

i cant do it. i have friends that i call robodrinkers that can drink a shot without a tear.

I'd have to say yeah, you pretty much grow tolerent of it. You're better off not going down that road though. Instead, just drink mixed stuff like rum and coke. It doesn't make you less tough or anything. Might i reccomend beer instead of the liquor too. You can hang out all night and not be dumb drunk by the end of the night. You'll feel great and your friends will be hung over.

Get used to it and say goodbye to your liver. Before it totally goes, your skin will turn yellow and your body will begin to smell like a not-so-freshly buried corpse. You might want to consider taking up another hobby.

Dont do it....it kills the brain cells.

Being from Kentucky, you grow up looking forward to the opportunity to drink bourbon. Once you get there there's a slight moment when you hate the taste. But you just get over it. I'm looking forward to Derby day and can almost taste the mint juleps right now.

No, I just enjoy the taste as-is. Some will say that drinking straight whisky is an acquired taste, but as far as I'm concerned there was no "acquisition" necessary, I liked the taste from the first drink.
