Hops... Could you not just buy a beer making kit and do it that way? I know you can buy hops though as I bought some completely by mistake at a garden centre in Enfield. I'd just had my garden done (I lived in a new house with rubble as the garden) and it wasn't until a year later when the plant flowered that we realised what it was... Have you done a search on the internet for your local garden centres - perhaps you could then ring them up and ask before making the journey?

in the hopp seed store :D:D:D:D

i just started home brewing a couple months ago. this is the site that i've been learning from and its the best free resource ive found:

http://www.howtobrew.com/intro.html...

there are a lot of books out there you can buy too.

like i said im new so im probably not the most reliable person to get answers from, but from what ive picked up i dont think people usually buy hop seeds, people usually buy baby hop plants called "rhizomes" which are basically just a root that you plant. i think i saw them for sale a few weeks ago at http://www.morebeer.com (arent any at the moment), the forums at morebeer.com are also a good place to ask questions because there are a lot more homebrewers there than here and there are probably lots of people that have experience growing hops themselves. you can probably find other sites by searching for "hop rhizomes" and checking out local homebrew stores/websites

if youre just starting if i were you id just buy some hop pellets for your first couple batches before you start getting crazy. the other thing is that there are dozens of differen types of hops with very unique flavors, and if you grow youre own youll be limited to just a couple varities. there are a lot of recepies here http://www.brewery.org/brewery/cm3/catsm... and i also have a pdf file with 600 recepies that i got on ebay for $1 that has free distributing rights, if you send me your email address via private message ill email it to you if you want it.

if you dont want to follow a recepie, the basic ingredients for a 5 gallon beer are as follows (if you want it metric or are making less than 5 gallons covert it)

5-10 pounds of unhopped malt extract pending on how strong flavored/heavy bodied you want it
.5-2 oz of hops
2 packs (7-10g each) dry yeast (you can get by with 1 for less than 3 gallons)
sugar or other stuff you want to add for more flavor and/or higher alcohol content

Don't bother, they grow wild along most canals and rivers, usually growing through a host plant or bush.

Pick the best one's and use them for free
