What are beer hops?!

Question: Hops are actually the female flower of the hop plant. They are what give beer the bitter flavor, and also act as a natural preservative. Hops can impart different flavors and aromas, depending on the hop variety; piney, citrusy, flowery. etc. Hops are used in beer to balance out malty flavors. Certain beers such as India Pale Ales will feature very bitter, or hoppy, flavors.

Two main types of hops are used when brewing beer:
Hops boiled early with the wort (liquid before yeast is added) are "bittering hops", and are obviously responsible for the bitter flavor. Hops added later are responsible for the beer's aroma and flavor.

Hops are the flowers off of the hops vine used to flavor beer and other spirits. There are several varieties of hops mostly grown in Europe especially in Bavaria.

" Beer Hops"?
You see, every year all the different beers get together in Florida for a beer hopping contest.
It's sorta like "Leap Frog".
Quite a sight. You see them hopping all over the place and over each other.
This year the competition was fierce. Budweiser had the lead, but then all of a sudden some Belgium import "Chamay, took a huge HOP over Bud, only to be re-Hopped by aDutch beer with a fancy cap "Grolsch " was his name, just when you thought it was over, "Fat Tire" bounced up in the air and blew them all away with one giant HOP!
What a sight. Unreal!
Cant wait till next spring break.

Hops are the flowers of a bine (no, that isn't a typo; bines coil in the opposite direction from vines). They produce intensely bitter resins that are used as a preservative and flavoring in beers.
