a 7 and 7 is Seagrams seven and sprite. one shot in a twele ounce glass with the rest sprit of seven up.
I have had many guest jokingly as for a "14" although after awhile this gets old.

A Seven and Seven is very specific on both ingredients used. The liquor is Seagram's 7 whiskey and the mixer is 7-up. Any other combination is just not the same. This is a great way to enjoy whiskey in a refreshing highball.

PREPARATION:

Oh I've made many at the restaurant. In a rocks glass filled with ice, 1 shot Seagram's 7, and fill to almost the top with 7-Up. Stick in a swizzle straw and there it is!

I've heard of 20 / 20. Great drink , used to have it as a kid down the park, bottle between 7 of us and a plastic bottle with 7 straws of Cider (white lightening normally).

A seven seven is "Seagram's 7 and 7 up" been around for along time.
I'm sure all these people are correct, but where I live it was seven year old charter and 7 up. Glad you asked, I never had thought about it before.
