Can smoke detectors that are the type that are all wired to a central point detect if they are covered?!


Question: If I want to smoke a hookah in my dorm room I want to take all of the proper precautions. I plan on having a two fans, one blowing out of the window and one in the hallway sucking in room from the hallway. The hallway in my room is separated from the main hallway by a big wooden door. I plan on stuffing a towel under it. My room mate is cool with it and wants too additionally. I read that some of the high tech smoke detectors in dorm rooms and actually detect if the alarm is covered with a plastic bag. Is this true?

Yes.

Although, the alarms in the rooms typically are NOT set to put your whole building into alarm if smoke is detected in your room.

A local 'piezo' is what sounds, just to startle you, and it will need to be reset by a tech....

I am not sure what state/country you are from however, so this could be wrong.

Putting the bag over a detector though, also it could go off simply becuase you put it's ambient level 'off'. f t tests sensitivity, etc, just the bag could cause a local alarm.

If you gave a part and model # of the detector, I am sure it would be easier to answer your question.

(I think all the air you have blowing through your room would be enough)

Although, have to throw this in: you really shouldn't be smoking anything illegal.
