Working as a cocktail server in reno vs las vegas?!

Question: i dont have any cocktailing experience but i do have the looks and waitressing experience. Would it be a good idea to start out in reno? they seem to be hiring more than vegas. but the question is... will i make money in reno? comparable? help!

It wouldn't be any different starting in Las Vegas or Reno, but you will have a lot more room to move up in Las Vegas. Most cocktail servers (as well as dealers) start in smaller or older casinos, such as downtown casinos or anywhere off the Strip. After a few months, you can move to a higher level casino on the Strip, and then to a premium one (Wynn, Bellagio, etc...)

If you have the looks, you can probably even start at many of these without experience. The Rio probably has the most glamorous servers, and they are hired as models, not waitresses, so have different standards.

But the rewards are probably worth the effort - a good server in the right place can make upwards of $100,000 per year in tips.

I would suggest just starting in Las Vegas - then you won't have to move again once you have learned the ropes in Reno.

vegas bby!

If you end up at Harah's or Silver Legacy in Reno you should be ok, but consider Tahoe as well, they probably have more money coming in than Reno.
