What is sour mix? And where can i buy it? UK only?!

Question:

What is sour mix? And where can i buy it? UK only?

Sometimes called sweet and sour bar mix. Tastes a bit like sweet lemon.

Its what's used to make a sour i.e whisky sour, ameretto sour, etc.

When i look at receipes for these drinks they say to used angusdura bitters which doesn't taste the same.

Is bar sour mix only available to bars?

Answers:
No probably the best version I have come across was from a book called the bartenders cherry. The following might help:
1 cup sugar to 1 pint water. Warm water speeds up the dissolving process. Once cooled:
add 1 cup of 50/50 fresh lemon and lime juices mix thoroughly.
then add in one egg white to ensure the whole lot binds and there you have it. Keep refrigerated and use within 2 - 4 days.
Want it more sour add more lime juice; sweeter more sugar

Wow, those are two totally different things! Sour mix is like super tart lemonade. You should be able to find it at Safeway in the liquor section. Or really any liquor store. Bitters I've only used for making an Old Fashioned. Those two are not the same.

In the US, it could easily be found at any liquor store that sold bloody mary mix, grenadine, etc. I would just check a liquor store!

Simple fresh lime juice will do

In the USA it's available, both in powdered and liquid forms, not only wherever alcohol is sold but also at every unlicensed supermarket and in the food and drinks section of most pharmacies, too. But the moment you cross into Canada it's very hard to find (we stock up when we visit the States). Certainly seems strange!
