Did the seafarers and bounty-hunters of olde mix their rum with anything, or did they drink it straight up?!
The men were not happy that their rum was diluted, and named the watered version (contemptuously) grog.
Thus real grog is rum with water, lime juice and brown cane sugar. Possibly the world's first regularly prepared cocktail!
Best wishes
Answers: In the Royal Navy, the daily allowance was "every day mixed with the proportion of a quart of water to a half pint of rum, to be mixed in a scuttled butt kept for that purpose, and to be done upon the deck, and in the presence of the Lieutenant of the Watch who is to take particular care to see that the men are not defrauded in having their full allowance of rum... and let those that are good husbanders receive extra lime juice and sugar that it be made more palatable to them."

well i dont know if they mix their rum with any thing....but ive heard from many modern US Navy sailors that they did put a little bit of rum into the water cask they would have on ship.
this was to prevent the water from spoiling, yes water can spoil if untreated. no wories about this in modern day though.
hope i was a help.
probably with water. They rationed it on board ship back then.
Rum is rum, mix is grog.
Yes
rum was either a straight up drink, or mixed with water or "small beer" (a weak beer) to make grog
In early American Ages (Puritan Age), people would mix rum with WATER! I know right?
The quality was poor to start with..
As for mixers I am sure many would choose their own ,,coffee tea,,to spice it up
It wasn't till the feds set the rules..for standards..did any one really know what they got..
Grog is one half rum and one half water.
Sailors of old had a daily rum ration.
These crafty ones mixed their booze with coke (Coca Cola, that is).
